Serre Weights and Wild Ramification in Two-dimensional Galois Representations

چکیده
A generalization of Serre’s Conjecture asserts that if F is a totally real field, then certain characteristic p representations of Galois groups over F arise from Hilbert modular forms. Moreover, it predicts the set of weights of such forms in terms of the local behaviour of the Galois representation at primes over p. This characterization of the weights, which is formulated using p-adic Hodge theory, is known under mild technical hypotheses if p > 2. In this paper we give, under the assumption that p is unramified in F , a conjectural alternative description for the set of weights. Our approach is to use the Artin–Hasse exponential and local class field theory to construct bases for local Galois cohomology spaces in terms of which we identify subspaces that should correspond to ones defined using p-adic Hodge theory. The resulting conjecture amounts to an explicit description of wild ramification in reductions of certain crystalline Galois representations. It enables the direct computation of the set of Serre weights of a Galois representation, which we illustrate with numerical examples. A proof of this conjecture has been announced by Calegari, Emerton, Gee and Mavrides. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification: 11F80 (primary); 11S15, 11S25 (secondary)

THE WEIGHT IN A SERRE-TYPE CONJECTURE FOR TAME n-DIMENSIONAL GALOIS REPRESENTATIONS
We formulate a Serre-type conjecture for n-dimensional Galois representations that are tamely ramified at p. The weights are predicted using a representation-theoretic recipe. For n = 3 some of these weights were not predicted by the previous conjecture of Ash, Doud, Pollack, and Sinnott. Computational evidence for these extra weights is provided by calculations of Doud and Pollack. We obtain t...
متن کاملSerre Weights for Locally Reducible Two-dimensional Galois Representations
Let F be a totally real field, and v a place of F dividing an odd prime p. We study the weight part of Serre’s conjecture for continuous totally odd representations ρ : GF → GL2(Fp) that are reducible locally at v. Let W be the set of predicted Serre weights for the semisimplification of ρ|GFv . We prove that when ρ|GFv is generic, the Serre weights inW for which ρ is modular are exactly the on...
متن کامل- EXTENSIONS OF Q AND THE MOD p COHOMOLOGY OF GL 3 ( Z )
In this paper we give additional computational evidence for the generalization of Serre’s Conjecture [Serre 87] proposed in [Ash-Sinnott 00] and extended in [Ash-Doud-Pollack 02]. We also propose a further refinement — corresponding precisely to the “peu ramifiée – très ramifiée” distinction in Serre — which removes an ambiguity in the prediction of the earlier conjecture. The conjecture sets o...

متن کاملCompanion Forms for Unitary and Symplectic Groups
We prove a companion forms theorem for ordinary n-dimensional automorphic Galois representations, by use of automorphy lifting theorems developed by the second author, and a technique for deducing companion forms theorems due to the first author. We deduce results about the possible Serre weights of mod l Galois representations corresponding to automorphic representations on unitary groups. We ...
